Microdermabrasion is a simple, no downtime procedure that
exfoliates the skin. A crystal diamond head wand is used to remove
the stratum corneum (top layer), where the dead skin cells are
located. This procedure will reveal softer, smoother, more vibrant
looking skin and a healthier complexion. By repeating this treatment
over the course of several weeks, the younger, softer skin moves up
to the surface.
When enlarged, clogged pores form on the skin surface, they cause
a bumpy, uneven texture. Microdermabrasion can reduce the
appearance of these large, open pores by unclogging sebum (oil)
build-up and eliminating white and black heads. When dead skin
cells are wiped away, acne-causing bacteria cannot survive as easily.
Microdermabrasion works by causing a small amount of trauma to the skin. The skin repairs itself in a more organized
fashion, creating younger, healthier looking skin. There are no side effects, the non-surgical treatments can be done in less
than an hour. Normal activities can be resumed immediately. These treatments work on all skin colors and types.
During a procedure, collagen production is stimulated, which evens out the skin texture and appearance. It is a painless way
to reduce the prominence of shallow scars from acne, fine lines, “crow’s feet,” age spots, and other skin wounds. Sun
damage and hyperpigmentation are also diminished.
Another advantage of microdermabrasion is that the penetration of cosmeceuticals is greatly enhanced, since the outer layer
of dead skin cells has been exfoliated. Without the stratum corneum acting as a barrier, medicinal creams and lotions are
more effective because more of their active ingredients can find their way down to the lower layers of skin.
The desired effect of significant texture and color improvements will continue with time. This non-invasive procedure,
performed by a licensed aesthetician, will improve the overall appearance of the skin with no disruption from daily activities.
